Bottom line: Lighter Standard lists 0% maker and taker fees, with 200 ms maker and cancel latency and 300 ms taker latency. Hyperliquid tier-0 perpetuals list 0.015% maker and 0.045% taker before HYPE staking and referral reductions. Lighter Premium starts at 0.0040% maker and 0.0280% taker with 200 ms taker latency. Compare the account type, live book, funding and exit path for the exact market.

## Hyperliquid vs Lighter at a glance

Both venues offer central-limit-order-book trading, hourly perpetual funding and automated order controls. Hyperliquid commits HyperCore actions through consensus on the Hyperliquid L1. Lighter uses a sequencer and exchange-specific proofs, then anchors proofs and exchange state to Ethereum.

A useful comparison starts with the account and market. Record the posted fee, account latency, live depth, funding rate, deposit route and withdrawal route for the same order size.

| Dimension | Hyperliquid | Lighter |
| --- | --- | --- |
| Core design | Native HyperCore order book on Hyperliquid L1 | Proven exchange state anchored to Ethereum |
| Entry pricing | Tier-0 perpetual maker 0.015%; taker 0.045% | Standard maker 0%; taker 0% |
| Paid account pricing | Volume tiers plus HYPE staking reductions | Premium fee and latency tiers based on staked LIT |
| Funding | Hourly | Hourly |
| Execution tools | Limit, market, triggers, Scale, browser-run Chase and TWAP | Limit, market, triggers, TWAP, Advanced TWAP, Chase and Atomic orders |
| Exit dependencies | Signer, HyperBFT, validators, protocol and bridge route | Signer, sequencer, prover, Ethereum contracts and published state data |

## Hyperliquid vs Lighter fees, checked 11 August 2026

For Hyperliquid, the guide uses a validator-operated perpetual at tier 0 before HYPE staking, referral discounts or HIP-3 adjustments. For Lighter, the guide keeps Standard, Premium and Plus accounts separate.

Lighter Premium links fee and taker-latency reductions to staked LIT. Lighter applies the Premium staking tier across the main account and associated subaccounts. Lighter Plus has a separate fee, latency and rate-limit schedule.

| Product or account | Maker | Taker | Published account latency |
| --- | --- | --- | --- |
| Hyperliquid validator-operated perp, tier 0 | 0.015% | 0.045% | Fee schedule gives no account-delay figure |
| Lighter Standard, perp or spot | 0% | 0% | Maker/cancel 200 ms; taker 300 ms |
| Lighter Premium, 0 LIT | 0.0040% | 0.0280% | Taker 200 ms; no added delay for post-only or cancel |
| Lighter Premium, 500,000 LIT | 0.0028% | 0.0196% | Taker 140 ms; no added delay for post-only or cancel |
| Lighter Plus | 0.005% | 0.005% | Maker/cancel 200 ms; taker 300 ms |

Note: The fee table was checked against the official fee pages on 11 August 2026. Funding, slippage and withdrawal costs remain separate. Confirm the account tier and order preview before each trade.

## How custody, settlement and exits differ

HyperCore holds the Hyperliquid order book, positions and liquidation state. HyperBFT gives finality to HyperCore actions. A trader depends on the account signer, validator set, protocol software and the selected deposit or withdrawal route.

Lighter documents a sequencer that orders transactions, a prover that attests to state changes and Ethereum contracts that hold assets and the canonical state root. Lighter also documents an Ethereum priority queue and an escape hatch for a sequencer failure.

Both models retain signer, software, oracle, liquidity and operational risk. Hyperliquid uses native L1 consensus for exchange execution. Lighter uses proofs, published state data and Ethereum contracts for verification and exits.

## Which venue matches each use case

A strategy can use both venues. Start with small test capital, compare realized fills and complete a withdrawal before you move strategy-critical collateral.

Key points:
- Choose Hyperliquid for one account system that connects HyperCore, HYPE, HyperEVM and HIP-3 markets.
- Choose Lighter Standard when 0% posted trading fees matter more than its documented account delay.
- Choose Lighter Premium when its lower taker delay and LIT-linked rates improve measured execution.
- Choose Lighter Plus when the documented rate limits justify a 0.005% maker and taker fee.
- Choose a managed-custody product if self-custody, liquidation and withdrawal controls exceed your operating ability.

## Test execution before moving full size

Use each test result for its tested market and size. BTC depth at one notional gives no evidence for a HIP-3 or long-tail market at another notional.

Key points:
- Record best bid, best ask and depth for the same market and time.
- Quote the same notional with the same urgency.
- Measure realized fill price, fee and time to completion.
- Hold through one funding event and record the signed payment.
- Cancel resting orders and test a small withdrawal.
- Repeat during both normal and volatile conditions.

## Frequently asked questions

### Is Lighter Standard cheaper than Hyperliquid?

Lighter Standard has the lower posted trading fee: 0% maker and taker. Realized cost also includes account delay, funding, slippage, depth and withdrawal costs. Compare the same market, size and urgency.

### How do Lighter Premium fees compare with Hyperliquid?
